In our study, a borderline significance for increased cataract progression was observed in the 23-gauge group, and this most likely related to performing partial fluid-air exchange even in patients who did not require a tamponade at the end of the surgical procedure, as well as to a greater number of patients in this group having lens opacity greater than grade 1.
