Univalent chromosomes (as many as six) were present in 20% (35 cells counted) of Chtf18 −/− metaphase I spermatocytes ( Figure 7H ), a number that is highly significant in light of the fact that such chromosomes were not observed in spermatocytes of wild-type males (50 cells counted).
