This data on change in the signal transduction has been further documented by the evidence of altered expression of specific microtubule proteins in the ERC of schizophrenia patients.[ 35 ] Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan–related abnormalities that involve glial cells and the extracellular matrix have been detected in the amygdala and entorhinal cortex of subjects with schizophrenia.[ 36 ] This suggests impairments in mechanisms that regulate developmental and adult neural functions that are highly significant to the etiology of schizophrenia.
