A trend toward significance was observed with lower risk of all-cause mortality or first heart failure hospitalization in patients treated with darbepoetin alfa compared with placebo, but this was not statistically significant (hazard ratio 0.68; 95% confidence interval 0–1.08; P = 0.10).
