In addition to the well known risk factors of age, heart failure, diabetes, chronic kidney disease and hypertension, an observational study including 1,182 patients with normal baseline renal function undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery determined albumin levels <4 g/dl as independent risk factor for postoperative AKI (OR = 1.83), remaining highly significant even after correction by a propensity score [ 24 ].
