Species richness was seen to decline by 50 % across all sites around a temperature threshold of 1000 growing degree days (GDD) and total N inputs of 15 kg N ha −1 yr −1 , and declined by a further 50 % when GDD exceeded 2000; this relationship was significant in the lowland-only dataset and as a not quite significant trend for the uplands.
