Two independent statistical groups evaluated 37 prespecified baseline and postrandomization factors from the PLATO trial and found a significant interaction between treatment and region ( P = 0.045), with North American participants (US and Canada) demonstrating a nonsignificant trend towards an unfavorable treatment effect with ticagrelor for the primary endpoint (HR 1.25; 95% CI 0.93–1.67) compared to a favorable outcome in the other regions combined. 32 , 20 Out of the baseline and postrandomization factors, the dose of aspirin taken concomitantly with ticagrelor was the only accounting factor found to explain the geographic differences observed in the PLATO trial.
