Standardised incidence ratios of a similar order of magnitude (although not quite statistically significant) have been reported previously from a Swedish study (SIR: 1.03; 95% CI: 1.00–1.06) and for a non-metal-on-metal hip replacement cohort from Finland (SIR: 1.04; 95% CI: 0.99–1.09) ( Nyrén et al , 1995 ; Mäkelä et al , 2012 ).
