The symptoms of STS are usually rapid in onset and associated with a particular event.[ 2 ] Up to one third of practicing clinicians could be expected to be suffering from burn out if assessed cross-sectionally.[ 3 ] More importantly there has been an increasing trend in the emotional exhaustion of clinicians over the years.[ 4 ] The issue assumes a greater significance in context of clinicians involved in care of individuals diagnosed with medical illness.
