Furthermore, the authors found that, in patients with CRA, the genes modulated by vegetable intake were responsible for relatively later stages of the evolution of colorectal neoplasms, whereas the genes modulated in healthy controls were involved in the initial phase [14] , indicating that the protective effect of legumes might be significant in the earlier stages of colorectal carcinogenesis.
