Genes affected by mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV) proviral insertions in mouse mammary tumors are deregulated or mutated in primary human mammary tumors.

Bert Vogelstein (unpublished data) has found that 8 of the 27 CIS genes have been shown to have non-synonymous mutations in at least one human tumor, which approaches statistical significance (p =0.05, Chi 2 ) (Personal communication).
