The results demonstrated highly significant correlation with CDAI, endoscopic severity, distribution and histological activity. 9 – 11 Although this method of investigation has been described as the ‘gold standard’ method of quantifying mucosal inflammation in IBD, it is cumbersome, time consuming, expensive and exposes patients to ionising radiation.
