While an OSM-dependent action of osteoclasts and macrophages may be significant for MSC recruitment it is unlikely to explain how bone formation is stimulated by osteoclast-initiated remodelling unless other factors either direct MSC to the site of osteoclast activity or provide an amplifying co-stimulus for OSM action.
