Consistent with this expectation, the overall pattern suggested higher X than autosomal expression, although the results did not quite reach statistical significance (females: Welch’s t 28.842 = −1.6342, P = 0.0565; males: Welch’s t 25.549 = −1.4316, P = 0.08219; see supplementary file S2 , Supplementary Material online, for genes tested), perhaps as a result of low power given the small number of genes (X: 14, autosomes: 63 genes) as was the case for T. castaneum ( Prince et al. 2010 ).
