After 5 years of fenofibrate treatment, the main FIELD study found a highly significant overall 31% reduction in the need for the first laser treatment for any retinopathy, with a number needed to treat of just 17 to avoid at least 1 individual requiring laser among those with known DR at study entry ( 1 ).
