Analysis of ARC ( Figure 2 ; left panels) showed that maternal caloric restriction during gestation produced an increase in the total number of hematoxylin/eosin-stained cells in the ARC of CR females compared to their controls (p < 0.05; LSD post hoc one-way ANOVA test), but a slight trend toward a decrease in CR males, compared to their controls.
