Database searches of various genomes using blastp and a conserved region corresponding to amino acid positions 70-146 of MsVmp1 as query revealed highly significant hits (E values <1e-10) only for lepidopteran species, with the lowest E value of 4e-14 detected for the hypothetical cuticle protein Cph38 from Bombyx mori ( Table S2 , supporting information).
