This peculiar distribution of PCNA + cells in a suprabasal location in OKC could be due, perhaps, to inductive influences of the underlying connective tissue as suggested by Piattelli et al .[ 8 ] Inflamed OKC showed statistically highly significant increase in PCNA positive cells in both basal and suprabasal cell layers as compared to classical OKC, which is in agreement with the previous studies[ 6 ] but Kaplan and Hirshberg[ 4 ] reported that PCNA labeling index did not significantly change between areas with low- and high-inflammation.
