highly significantP < 0.001
The relationship between latitude and degree-days (DD) was highly significant on both continents [Europe: DD = 8,152 – 146 × (latitude); North America: DD = 8,201 − 161 × (latitude); r 2 > 0.92, P < 0.001 in both cases], but at equivalent latitudes, North American sites tend to be 500–700 DD cooler than European sites.
