This showed that reassortment rate was still significantly negatively correlated with d N /d S independent of the proportion of wild birds as host in all six internal segments (R: -0.79 to −0.44, P < 0.01; Additional file 2 : Table S3 column 5 and 7); and independently positively correlated with proportion of wild birds as host (R:-0.66 to −0.29, P < 0.07; Additional file 2 : Table S3 column 8 and 10) with borderline significance, thus both host and selective constraint are associated with reassortment rate.
