Further support comes from the number of selected genes being smaller with randomized vs observed phenotypes (3–7 vs 14, Supplementary Figure 12 ), albeit not zero, consistent with the above MAF significance correlation resulting in SNPs with a high MAF not only to be more likely to be significant with observed phenotypes, but also with random phenotype permutations.
