The inverse association between relative abundances of oleic acid and arachidonic acid is related to alpha -linolenic acid.

Diet type did not influence the association; when analyzing the relationships shown in Figure 1 in each diet subgroup separately (see Methods), we obtained highly significant correlations (r > 0.8; in many groups: r > 0.9); with p < 0.001 in all subgroups (results not shown otherwise).
