Importantly, while stiffness was reduced 37% in Ppib −/− mice (p<0.01), cortical bending moment of inertia, as measured by microCT, was only modestly reduced (−11%, p = 0.14) suggesting there may be significant changes in bone material properties at levels unaccounted for by changes in cortical geometry.
