Taken together, these subtle yet highly significant, age-associated alterations to the sperm methylation profile are intriguing because of their location and consistency, but more work is required to elucidate the biological impact of these marks.

We found a random distribution of significant age-associated methylation alterations throughout the entire genome with what appears to be enrichment at telomeric and sub-telomeric loci, however this apparent enrichment failed to reach significance ( Figure 3 ).
