It may be significant that the two cysteine residues that in bovine and rabbit HPRG may be supposed to form one disulphide bond within one of the two proline-rich regions that flank the hystidine-rich region are not conserved in the human protein (Cys-265 of the rabbit HPRG sequence is replaced by proline) nor in the mouse, rat and pig HPRG, where Cys-295 is replaced by other amino acids ( Figure 4 ).
