7 Current CAUTI prevention strategies focus on limiting exposure to indwelling urinary catheters (ie, limiting use, decreasing catheter days); however, our data examining catheter days and time from catheterization to onset of infection appear to suggest that there is still a fairly significant risk of infection in patients who are catheterized for even a short period of time (≤3 days).
