Differences in genomic content among maize lines is well known, for example, the genome size of the Mo17 and B73 lines are estimated to differ by 0.13 pg (see Figueroa and Bass, 2012 ), and highly significant variation in 4C DNA content in maize varieties, ranging from 9.84 to 13.49 pg, has been reported ( Laurie and Bennett, 1985 ).
