Upon close examination of the resulting C-series spectra ( Figure 1 b and Supporting Information Figure S2 ), an interesting trend was noted: in general, the major spectral peaks tend to blue shift as the polycytosine heads become larger (C 3–3 , 645/695; C 4–4 , 575/635; C 5–5 , 525/585; C 8–8 , 460/555).
