We showed that the connectivity between the 31 genes in this network is highly significant with an empirical P -value of 0 based on 10 000 simulations of calculating average pair-wise shortest distances from randomly chosen proteins from the protein-protein-interaction database ( Supplementary File S6 Figure A).
