In the experiments on the plane substrate, our results showed that claws are very important for the propulsion generation, as the claw amputation had a highly significant effect on beetle performance, which is in accordance with the results of Stork (1980), who measured the pulling forces of the beetle Chrysolina polita on cloth amongst other substrates 4 .
