This index, which was defied firstly by Walmsley in 1998, consisted of scores for fie clinical criteria and showed a highly significant correlation with existing more complex scoring systems and therefore could be useful in the initial assessment of patients with ulcerative colitis. 9 SCCAI is a 5-item questionnaire that assesses the severity of bowel disease using clinical symptoms including number of defecations in a day, during the night, emergency feeling for defecation, seeing blood in the stool, general feeling of wellbeing, and extra-intestinal manifestations.
