Statistics applied to detect departures from neutrality reveal a weak trend toward positive values in A. gambiae and A. coluzzii (and hybrids) from “Far-West”, whereas negative values were scored in both species from West and Central Africa (significant in A. gambiae : D* = −2.583, F* = −2.686, and A. coluzzi : D* = −2.848, F* = −2.922) as well as in A. gambiae from Rwanda, suggesting the influence of different selective pressures and/or demographic histories in populations from different geographic areas.
