qRT-PCR analysis showed an overall trend of up-regulation in the leaves of cacao plants incubated in the dark for 1 week ( Fig. 5A ) as well as in cacao cell culture without sucrose for 24h ( Fig. 5B ), confirming that the selected genes are responsive to standard carbon starvation conditions in plants.
