Comparing trends from 2004 to 2007 (immediately after the bio-behavioural study was conducted), there was a significant association between the increase and the previous high (>50%) proportion of short-term injectors (p = 0.02), whereas the association with the indicator of low HIV prevalence (<5%) with high HCV prevalence (>50%) was borderline significant (p = 0.07).
