An increasing trend of DNA methylation level during plant growth and development has been reported in Arabidopsis , tomato, and rice [ 8 , 13 , 14 ], however aberrant methylation could impede normal development and reduce fertility as demonstrated in MET1 loss of function of Arabidopsis [ 15 ].
