The CAPiTA trial demonstrates a highly significant 45.6% [95% CI (21.8–62.5)] reduction in first episode of vaccine-type CAP, a 45.0% [95% CI (14.7–65.3)] reduction in first episode of non-bacteraemic/noninvasive vaccine-type CAP and a 75% [95% CI (41.4–90.8)] reduction in first episode of vaccine-type IPD, with, however, no effect on overall mortality [ 12 ].
