Electron microscopy of 800 spinal axons (400 hypoxic, 400 normoxic, 100 axons per animal) left and right of the anterior median fissure from adult hypoxic and normoxic animals and subsequent data analysis (Sigma Plot) indicated a) absence of the Normality criterion for the data distribution ( Shapiro-Wilk Test ) and b) highly significant differences in the g-ratios as well as axon diameters between the hypoxic and normoxic group with p< 0.001 (each) using the Mann-Whitney Rank Sum Test and the Kruskal-Wallis One Way Analysis of Variance on Ranks .
