Dandona and co-workers ( 26 ) reported that obese individuals (BMI 37.5 ± 4.9 kg/m 2 ) had significantly higher plasma MIF levels (2.8 ± 2.0 ng/ml) than lean individuals (BMI 22.6 ± 3.4 kg/m 2 ; plasma MIF 1.2 ± 0.6 ng/ml) and that there was a highly significant positive correlation between MIF levels and BMI.
