The effects were again significant for ingroup’s attitude towards the outgroup, t (24) = -2.71, p = .01, meta-stereotype valence, t (24) = 2.69, p = .01, and marginally significant for identification, t (24) = 1.79, p = .09.
Although this finding should be interpreted with caution because of the small sample size and the marginal significance, it is consistent with the hypothesis that anticipating intergroup contact encourages group members to share anecdotes about experiences with ingroup-directed hostility, which in turn enhances steeling on ingroup identification (see Fig 4 ).
