The linkage of different chromosomal numbers to sex is statistically highly significant (p = (1/2) 13 = 0.00012) [we studied 13 individuals and probability that it would be found in a given sex just by chance is 1⁄2], which supports the identification of the chromosomes differing between males and females as the sex chromosomes.
