It is possible that age-related variables, as well as differing blood alcohol concentrations, may be significant contributing factors to the differential findings in ceramide profiles, as the acute ethanol doses administered by injection [ 21 ] or intubation [ 22 ] in the former studies would be expected to result in higher BACs (particularly in neonatal rodents) than those previously reported via voluntary drinking by adult P rats in the intermittent access paradigm (11–63 mg% [ 27 ]).
