In conclusion, BMI-1 expression is altered in VIN and VSCC and this may be significant for proliferation, apoptosis and invasion. siRNA targeting of BMI-1 successfully silenced BMI-1 expression in A-431 cells, and silencing BMI-1 significantly promoted apoptosis and inhibited the invasive and metastatic abilities of A-431 cells in vitro .
