Full haplotypes, containing both centromeric and telomeric portions, showed marginally significant overtransmission of KIR A1 haplotypes to affected individuals ( P =0.0494).

Given the complexity of both the HLA and KIR genetic loci, and extreme variability of both among populations, a thorough understanding of the role of KIR genes and haplotypes in T1D will require very large sample sets, where individual subsets are large enough to uncover potential highly significant results.
