Using gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA), we discovered a highly significant enrichment of several processes and pathways, among which chemotaxis, hematopoietic cell lineage pathways and genes involved in the pathogenesis of the autoimmune disorder rheumatoid arthritis (RA) had the highest number of annotated genes upregulated (Additional file 3 : Figure S3B).
