During our study period, there was an increasing trend in AMO values (as measured by the AMO anomaly based on decadal changes in sea surface temperature) from −0.25 to +0.35, which corresponded with a positive trend in d-excess values from ~0 to 22‰ and decrease in the δ18O values from ~−7 to -12‰ ( Fig. 2a ).
