When we pooled data from both sequences, the magnitude of the increase in gastrointestinal symptom scores following the consumption of milk containing both β-casein types tended to be greater in lactose intolerant subjects than in lactose tolerant subjects, and this was of borderline significance (least squares mean difference: 1.087; 95 % CI −0.0652, 2.2392; P = 0.0638).
