Although the proportion of patients from the BRV group who entered into the open phase of the individual trials did not generally show a favorable trend compared to the placebo group, a meta-analysis of trials of adjunctive AEDs in adults with drug-resistant focal epilepsy found the responder rates to placebo virtually double between 1989 and 2009. 100 This may partially explain the unnoticeable difference between BRV and placebo groups.
