A decreasing trend in clinical malaria cases has been reported over the past 14 years in Colombia, falling from 144,432 in 2000 [ 2 ] to 40,768 in 2014, with a more than 75 % decrease in the incidence of microscopically confirmed malaria during this period of time [ 1 ].
