During the induction phase of sensitization, we found that the acute locomotor response to cocaine was decreased in mice that received extended periods of sensory stimulation during development compared with controls, although this effect did not quite reach statistical significance [ Fig. 1 d , left; main effect of stimulation: F (1,19) = 10.82, p = 0.004; p = 0.1 (session 1) vs control].
