9 Furthermore, current data suggest that LECs suppress dendritic cells (DCs) maturation and further priming of CD8 + T cells, express components of antigen-presenting machinery, major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I and II molecules, and may be significant contributors to peripheral tolerance. 10 Lately, Swartz group provided data suggesting that LECs can constantly uptake and cross-present exogenous Ags to CD8 + T cells, under normal conditions, implying the contribution of LECs in sustaining of CD8 + T-cell tolerance to exogenous Ags present in the lymph. 8 The lymphatic system plays an important role not only in physiological but also in pathological conditions.
